I'm Johan, a cinematographer based in Stuttgart — for a few more months, anyway, before Hamburg becomes home.

I studied applied arts, design and media at Merz Akademie, and since 2023 I've been at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, working on independent projects alongside work for Arte and SWR.

Documentary work is where I feel most at home. Not because I'm looking for aesthetics in reality, but because I want to translate what I perceive in a real situation onto screen as directly as possible. Handheld is my main tool for that — my core skill, really — though I'm just as comfortable switching it up when a project calls for something else.

I also take on client work: brand films, photography, colour grading, and social media content. I work both solo and in small teams, adapting to whatever the project calls for. What matters most to me is that clients can rely on me — and are happy with the result.
